Sponsored Research

Innovative industry-sponsored research projects carry out a scope of work which is jointly defined based on the interests of the industry partner. Companies small and large can leverage UConn’s preeminent faculty experts and sophisticated equipment to solve problems and pursue new opportunities.


Named Faculty Chair or Industry Sponsored Center

This multi-year grant commitment supports research in a specific area.


Joint Proposals

Collaborate with UConn’s internationally recognized faculty on co-developed proposals for SBIR /STTR grants and other government and foundation funded research programs. Known as “America’s Seed Fund,” SBIR/STTR are critical forms of funding for early-stage companies to commercialize new ideas.

Business Resources

Technology Incubation Program (TIP)

By coupling UConn's world-class research resources, facilities, and business support services to a network of experienced investors and entrepreneurs, UConn TIP helps launch startups ready to transform their respective markets. With state-of-the-art wet/dry labs and office space in Storrs and at UConn Health in Farmington, TIP provides high-potential companies with the space and resources they need to go from virtual to established. Since 2003 TIP companies have raised more than $80 million in equity and debt, $50 million in grant funding, and have generated more than $45 million in revenue. Specialized Equipment

Fee for Service

UConn and the IPB are home to world class specialized equipment available to our industry partners through a fee for service model. 


Institute of Materials Science (IMS) Industrial Affiliates Program

This program assists industry partners with short-term, materials-related R&D and production projects, for example, analysis of product and process difficulties, troubleshooting of raw materials, identification of contaminants, and failure analysis, etc.
